I See a Cloud...
A few weeks ago, on a Thursday morning, I went to the monthly City Wide Prayer meeting held at Colonial Presbyterian Church (95th and Wornall). I thought to myself, "I'm not that far from IHOP (prayer, not pancakes), and I'm going to go stop in the worship and prayer room there for a little while." That can always be a dangerously good thing to do! I had no idea what God in store for me. The excellent musical worship being led from the stage was hammering over and over again these lyrics: "The rain is coming, the drought cannot stand, I see a cloud the size of a man's hand." This is a reference to Elijah and his servant in I Kings 18:44.
Elijah tells his servant seven times to go and look on the horizon of the Mediterranean Sea, to see if there's rain coming. Finally, on the seventh time, his servant gives him this news: "I saw a little cloud about the size of a man's hand rising from the sea." (NLT) It wasn't much, just a very small cloud very far away. (You can see a long way from the top of Mt. Carmel!) But it was something. It was enough for Elijah to know that the rain was coming. And, eventually, rain it did!
The IHOP worship band brilliantly played and sang and worshiped and prayed. I sat there in my chair, overwhelmed at the power and love of God. God knew that was exactly what I needed to hear that day. There is a cloud on the horizon the size of a man's hand...it's only a small beginning...but the rain is coming! I don't know what this means, exactly, in human terms for me or for this modern day. But I believe it means that the Spirit of God is moving...He's stirring up a great and powerful rainstorm to unite His Church for His global purposes. There are signs of it all over the place. The church, starting to unite like never before for the sake of bringing His love and message to the nations!
Oh, by the way...the IHOP song I've referred to, with these "rain-is-coming" words as the chorus, was in a medium-style rap...which made it that much easier to remember. Love that! It's been more than a month since that day when I first heard that song...and I'm STILL SINGING IT. Thank you, Lord, for giving me that moment to hear from you. Kansas City! The rain is coming! U.S.A.! The rain coming! All Nations! The rain is coming! Let's get drenched in the Spirit of God as He moves His people...His churches...His Church...toward unity for the purpose of all people groups in the world knowing that God the Father sent Jesus and that He loves them as much as He loves Jesus!
